Where I stayed
The Constitution Inn
Our Jet Blue flight went smoothly and we arrived at our hotel in the Charlestown Navy Yard area around 3 PM. The Constitution Inn, run by the YMCA of Greater Boston, is billed as "an affordable stay in Boston." We found it to be a comedown from our last Road Scholar accomodations in Key West. I called it "bare bones" but the biggest disappointment: it smelled like old cigarette smoke! Yuk!
Once at our destination, we were quite hungry---no real breakfast and no lunch---so we walked down to The Pier Bar and ordered beer and a burger to share. We enjoyed watching all the sailboats and viewing the skyscrapers from across the harbor.
There was a wine and cheese reception at 5 PM. That was a first for us with Road Scholar/Elderhostel. Dinner was catered at the hotel---turkey and all the fixins and pie ala mode for dessert. Very nice. At orientation we received a packet of breakfast coupons, public transportation (Charlie) passes and $60 in cash toward meals in which we would choose a restaurant. That was another first!
