"The enemy fought with savage fury, and met death with all its horrors, without shrinking or complaining: not one asked to be spared, but fought as long as they could stand or sit."
                                            -Davy Crockett

Our first full day of the program began with breakfast---adequate but not exciting. We walked to the Alamo, about a block from the Crockett Hotel, where we first saw a film and then went through the "long barracks," now a museum.  Later another speaker told us the history, actually much like what we had already heard. I was a bit disappointed---I had thought it might be an interpreter in military garb. John didn't like that we could only take photographs outside. Before leaving we took a look at the chapel and browsed through the gift shop.

Christina led us to the Menger Hotel and told us some of its history, including famous guests like President Clinton, Teddy Roosevelt, Roy Rogers and Trigger! It was a very beautiful place!

We had lunch at the Buckhorn Saloon, not very memorable food-wise. The ambience, on the other hand, is something to behold! Critters all over the walls!

After lunch several of us went to La Villeta, a small shopping village just off the Riverwalk. We wandered around, browsing through shops but I don't think any of us bought anything except ice cream!

We got back to the hotel in time to relax a bit before our Riverwalk barge tour which turned out to be very enjoyable.

After the ride, we made our way to the Lone Star where drinks and appetizers were offered for $2 each---a Happy Hour deal.  Most of us had margaritas and onion rings. Yummy!

Paesano's was the place for dinner which was quite tasty and I definitely drank and ate too much! We did some walking along the river, especially beautiful at night, until our feet started telling us: time to quit!
