Sin Chao, he said. What? - I asked confused. Sin Chao, he looked into my face and smiled. Hello in Vietnamese. You are very nice. I blushed and mumbled something. Great opening line though. He was a tour guide to another group. We are in the most magnificent cave I've ever seen in my life. Colorful lights are illuminating ten meter tall stalactites spilling down like frozen waterfalls from the sealing. The cave would make for a fabulous venue for a night club. Maybe that's what prompted the guy to say hello:)

Ha Long Bay is beautiful. More beautiful than Milford Sound. Even though the weather was crappy. Even though it was steaming hot when it wasn't spitting raining. Even though there were thousands of boats and hundreds of thousands of tourists. It is still one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

The boat trip lasted couple of days. The highlight wasn't the scenery though. It was a group of middle aged Indonesian ladies that were sharing the same boat ride. They were 7. They got on the boat and immediately pooled out a deck of cards and packs of cigarettes. Add glasses of whiskey and piles of small notes on the table, and you get the picture. I was mesmerized.
