Today I hiked Rila Mountain with Militza and some of her friends. Even though it was just to be a day trip up to the famous Seven Rila Lakes, I brought matches, a knife, rain gear, and some extra layers in my pack. At least no one can say I didn't learn my lesson! Man vs. Wild: Wild always wins.
We first visited each of the seven lakes before climbing to the peak of the mountain, where, on a clear day, you can see all seven lakes at once. We were rewarded at the top when the day's perpetual fog broke for a few minutes, giving us a glimpse of this breathtaking view.
The best part of the hike, however, was the incredible foot massage I received from the fish of Lake Trilistnika. I dipped my feet in and immediately little black fish swam up and started eating away at my dead skin. People pay big bucks for this service at salons, and we stumbled across the source quite by accident by not shying away from our interactions with nature. All of us had a hand or a foot or two in the water before long. Giggling uncontrollably, I let the fish work their magic for a good twenty minutes before we moved on.
