Hunger eventually settles in and we decide to take a short walk up the beach and have lunch at Sha Shas Beach Resturant. The shack, which seats about six, is located on a platform a few feet above the sand, which seems at just the right height to catch a cool ocean breeze. Instead of a menu the proprietor simply brings out a tray of today's catch. The shrimp and squid look fresh so we opt for those (accompanied with boiled potatoes), in the meantime we order a few Lion beers to enjoy as we watch the waves roll in
The heat of the day continues to rise throughout the day as it reflects off the bright sandy beach. 34 degrees climbs to 36, then 38. Soon it's approaching 40 and the ocean pools are not doing enough to keep us cool. More drastic measures need to be taken. Our only hope of
escaping heat and the sun is to return to the shade of our hotel's open air bar and chill out listening to some trip hop while playing Connect Four.
We continue with this successful survival mechanism until its time to enjoy our fish curry dinner. The kitchen and wait staff recognize us from previous meals and bring out some extra dishes of spicy chili paste, in addition to the pappadoms, sweet & spicy eggplant, dhal and rice. The chilled white wine makes a great accompaniment to the meal. Fully satiated by yet another meal we make our way back to our beach cabanas and retire for the night.
