We start our first full beach day with a western style breakfast out on the open air dining area. I like the Sri Lanken breakfasts but I can only eat so much curry for breakfast. Besides, my teeth are starting to go yellow from all the turmeric.

We then make the five minute walk down the beach to our sister hotel and settle in at the Mangrove Beach Cafe. We pull out some beach chairs and lay out in the sun until our internal body temperature nears boiling point. In order to avoid passing out from heat stroke we run across the scorching hot sand and take refuge in one of the natural pools by the beach until our body temperature returns to normal. This process then gets repeated several times over the next few hours. Interrupted only briefly for a quick lunch.

Eventually we decide it's time to actually do something active so we take a short walk down the beach, past the lagoon, snapping photos. With dusk approaching we make our way back to our hotel for some cocktails.

Looking out over the beach and across the Indian Ocean, we notice that it's getting darker faster than normal. In the far distance we start to hear the rumbling sound of thunder. As the winds pick up we decide to order another round of drinks and watch the storm roll in across the beach.

The passing storm has taken the edge of the days heat and we settle in to a diner of whole grilled butterfish with vegetables. A bottle of white wine completes the meal. Bellies full once again we retire to our rooms and fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing along the shore. Sometimes life is good. This is definitely one of those times.
