Where I stayed
Fuss and Penny's Bach
On the Sunday after the wedding the Fussell's had hired a bach (kiwi for holiday home by the beach) and extended the invite for all to come and stay.
On the way to the beach I headed down to Waipawa to catch up with Steffi from my travels in South America. Steffi was at her Mum's place so I stopped in for lunch and a chat. After lunch I took Steffi for a ride in the Corvette and we stopped for a classic NZ summer ice cream of 3 scoops with chocolate coating. Yum yum. It was a great way to spend the afternoon before heading to the bach.
Next stop was to pick up some supplies for the BBQ as there are no shops at the beach. Head I headed to Ocean Beach to catch up with the others. This was to be our home for the next 4 to 5 days.
As you will see from the pictures it was a great place to unwind from the stresses of continued travel. We enjoyed beers and BBQ's each night, while swimming and playing beach cricket and golf each day. All classic kiwi summer holiday activities.
One day we met a little blue penguin that are common visitors to Ocean beach. This poor fella looked like he had lost his mates and had to swim a long way all by himself. He was knackered and eventually lied down for a sleep.
We also popped into Blackbarn winery for lunch one afternoon. It was a fabulous food with great wines to go with lunch. After lunch we went for a swim at Vinnie and Michelle's B&B. Its from here that I took a couple of panoramic shots of the Hawkes Bay area that you can see.
Ocean beach was a beautiful spot and a sample of what most of the NZ coastline looks like. You can see why us Kiwi's are such a lucky bunch with our beautiful country.
