(Jim)

I'm going home where the sun keeps shining
Through the pouring rain
Home where the weather
Suits my clothes

Our two U. S. air flights, from Vancouver to Las Vegas and then on to Baltimore, reminded us of the general unpleasantness of U. S. air travel.  After a blessed year in Business Class, we were excited to introduce the kids to the joys of genuine First Class air travel.  (Our remaining Business Class miles on the round-the-world tickets entitled us to First Class seating in the U. S., where there is no domestic Business Class.)

Unfortunately, First Class on Useless Airways is way worse than Business on most other airlines, and probably even worse than Economy on the great Asian carriers like Singapore or Thai Airlines.  Our flight attendant looked like she was wearing sweatpants, and acted like she was on vacation, not us.  We were offered soft drinks and pretzels, but no actual food.  Not only were our seats on the cross-country red-eye not lie-flat, they barely reclined.

Still, we all got a limited amount of sleep on our four hour flight, arriving at Baltimore-Washington International Airport at 7 a.m. on July 15, having been on the road for just over 364 days.  Amy's sister Nina and her kids were waiting to greet us.  There was general celebration and chaos, and then we divided into two cars for the half-hour drive to the cousins' house.  I missed two turns on the way and arrived way late. The kids immediately went to the pool with their cousins.  I feel asleep on the living room couch for most of the day.  Amy and her sister Nina disappeared on a three-hour Bataan Death March to the local grocery.
