Our first cruise stop was Castro, Chile. We didn't have an excursion, so we just walked around the town. The Church of Castro was a big yellow and purple painted church. It was actually a world heritage sight. I don't know what was so significant about it, though. The stilt houses over the water were also interesting. Fishing is the main industry in Castro, and there were lots of salmon farms. The captain said that the farmers have a problem with seals jumping into the nets and eating salmon, then jumping back out when their bellies were full. We didn't see any seals at that time, but took some pictures of the salmon farms. Later, when we looked back at the pictures, we realized that there were seals sitting on top of the net posts! We hadn't seen them looking at the salmon farms. That was exciting at the time, because we hadn't seen any seals yet.
