At about 2 we hopped in a tuk tuk to an ATM to get money as we discovered that my travel card had gone missing. Down to 1 card out of 4 now! The tuk tuk driver gave us a decent price to go with him to Galle so we said yes and we were off on our way, leaving the girls and Steev!
Galle is beautiful. I originally planned to go there after Ines told me how amazing it was and that she has a place and goes most Christmases. We got a place inside the fort at Frangipanni Motel, another of the Lonely Planet's top choices. The room was 2500 rupees for a night which we gasped at but in reality it is only £12.50 between us haha
We headed out exploring straight after dropping our bags inside. We saw the army base, the lighthouse, the whole circumference of the fort's walls, a few king cobras, several monkeys, numerous cool arty cafés, museums and shops before finally stopping for some fresh coconut water. At this point I was approached by some little nippers who wanted to play cricket with me. Of course I said yes so there I was bowling and batting and obviously winning against a 12, 7 and 5 year old for about 2 hours. An older family friend (about 25) came along after work and joined in and he was pretty good. So much fun and surprisingly hard work but I was happy as it was something I had always planned on doing in Sri Lanka.
We got back to the room, showered and headed out for dinner in the space of 10 mins. Our dinner spot for the night was Mama's, a rooftop cafe which served a traditional Sri Lankan curry and gunner (ginger ish tasting alcohol drink). The curry had rice, tuna, pumpkin, okra, soured mango, beetroot, dahl all on separate dishes.
Headed to bed after this with a severe food coma as well as being generally worn out.
