Take the ferry from Istanbul to Bandirma. A dolmus will take you from the ferry dock to the bus station. And from there catch a bus to Canakkale. From Canakkale you can cross the Staits to visit the World War I battlefields of Gallipoli. And/or head the other direction (south) to visit Troy, and other sights to the south.
