Alesund Norway:  We awoke to bright sunny skies, and the breathtaking scenery of Alesund, Norway.  Well, actually we awoke to me asking Michael what he had done with the Birthday Cards Carol and Bob had given him in the restaurant last night.  Much drama ensued as he realized he had left them, unopened, on the window sill by the table.  To top it off, I discovered his breakfast order form laying on the floor in the cabin, so no breakfast order.

He was stressed about the cards and could care less about breakfast.  I reassured him it would be ok as he dressed and headed out the door to the front desk to see if they had been turned in.  2 minutes later he returned without them, and the Pinnacle Grille would not be open or staffed for another 30 minutes at the earliest.  Much hand wringing and speculation then happened before I sent him to get breakfast, which he returned to the cabin with.  We ate and discussed what we would do that day since the In-Laws would be going on a tour by themselves.

30 minutes passed and he headed back to the restaurant, returning with the cards, one form Carol and Bob, one from Rob and Arghavan.  How nice that the remembered, and even managed to get a card to the ship (they did have an inside track though).  Disaster averted, we headed to the gym together, yes I said together.  After last night dinner I need to work out.  Only 20 minutes on the elliptical for me, 30 for Michael.  I grabbed a coffee and read through e-mail for awhile before we met up again.  I showered, and we were off to shore.  My cabin scan card was not working at the gangway, so I opted to go get it fixed while the front office wasn't busy.  Once ashore, I realized I had forgotten my hat at the desk and had to reboard.... a day of minor disasters.  We keep dropping, mislaying, worrying and almost breaking things every day.  What is up with us?

Hatted, smiling and warm in the sunshine, we headed about the charming coastal town of Alesund.  What a clean city, no litter, little graffiti, and squeaky clean blonde folks everywhere.  I have seen few people of other ethnicities in Norway, or Denmark for that fact.  We poked into several shops, met an interesting man who ran an art gallery
( www.cylindra.com )  who suggested we walk up the 422 steps to the top of the local park.  Which we proceeded to do. Lovely view, and the air was scented sweet with the wild roses that grew along the stone stepped path. (see photo).  At the top we took pictures, had ice cream and enjoyed the view.

The walk down was easier, but our legs are going to feel it I am sure.  We sat in the park at the bottom and decided we had seen enough of Alesund.  Lunch was calling us back aboard ship.  We headed back and once again Michael had an issue with his glasses (the lens keeps popping out).  Mr. Defeatism said to just put them away and lets head bacl to the ship.  I wanted to go into a mall (ulterior shopping motives) to look for an eye glass shop.  He declined, being all grumpy and sad over his glasses (see photo's).  Fortuantely, about a blok formt he ship we found an eyeglass shop and popped in.  10 Minutes and free repair service later, his glasses were like new, and Michael was all smiles again (and Larry too, a poopy Michael is no fun!).

Back aboard ship we had pizza at the pizzeria on the aft lido pool deck, which was VERY good.  Shrimp and mussel pizza, pepperoni and a slice of cheese.  Just enough with out being fussy or over filling.  We parted ways and I went again to the spa to relax, and fell asleep on one of the heated lounges (I gotta get pics of them to show you, they are awesome) after spending time in the mineral water whirlpool.  A quick sauna, and I went back to the cabin to change.  I found Michael a little while later having just woke up himself, he had been reading up in the crows nest lounge.  We are still adjusting.  We parted ways again and I headed to the Promenade Deck and a nap, that lasted until Michael woke me at 4:45!  Hurry Honey! Trivia starts in 15 minutes!

How I am beginning to loath trivia.  [SIGH]  I am thinking that I will just show up in the beginning so we can get the Dam Dollars and then leave.  I can see why Rob and Arghavan did not like it on the Alsaka cruise last summer.  This family is so competitive!

I returned to the cabin after a brief stop to get water, I am not drinking enough water and think that is partially why I am so tired, so I am making an effort to drink more, uhm, water that is....

Ok, that's enough for today.  It's almost 7 and I have to dress for dinner.  We are going to see the show tonight as well, classical opera or something local.  I sounds cool actually.  Giselle is the performers name.  Hmmmm.  We'll see.

Looking over the daily schedule, I miss so much because there are so many things to do.  Today I would have liked to the presentation on how to make Chocolate Volcano cake, or afternoon tea in the Rembrandt Dining Room, or the Art of Marzipan in the Culinary Arts Center.  And I've yet to go to the cinema!  But the nice thing is, a lto of these activities and films will be repeated in the second 10 days.

Time to dress, and head for a cocktail.  Catch ya tomorrow.  Please take a moment to rate my sight, add a comment, and remember to click on the titles for the pictures, I may have added additional comments and stories!
