So we made it!!

One week on a train! It actually went alot quicker than we expected (a good sign). It turns out we took vastly too many books and felt a bit silly. We hardly read at all.

Undoubtedly the best thing about the journey was watching the landscape change and unfold, sometimes gradually sometimes suddenly. Beginng with industrial Moscow, frosty forests in Siberia, the barren plains of Mongolia and the rugged mountains of northern China.

Highlights were snow so crisp you could clearly see the pattern of each individual snowflake. Men ice-fishing on lake Baikal, which was vast and entirely frozen and nomadic people living in gher tents with their camels (two humps) in the Gobi desert.

We're not going to lie, there was alot of snow.

At times the weather outside was so cold that despite the train being a balmy 25'C, at the bottom of our window there was consistently a shelf of ice a centimeter thick on the inside.

Tom claims his nostril hairs froze when he went outside in Irkutsk.
