It's not often that you get a pitch invasion at a soccer game from folks so perfectly dressed. Their uniform was pressed and showed the subtle black and white stripes associated with their kind. No, I am not referring to Newcastle United, but more the ones that seem to cross the road just when we are getting up a bit of speed. I am referring, of course, to the crew known as 'Zebra'.
As we turned around they trotted on to the pitch from the opposite end. They walked towards the centre line, four scoundrels eager to steal our ball. As the only girl, I could use a bit of help in the 'boys vs. girls' league, so I enlisted their help and gently rolled the ball in their direction.
Three turned slowly, disinterested in their latest invitation. But one decided it wanted to know more. He proceeded with care but not caution towards the now stationary football. What would it do? Kick it perhaps!
One step, two steps, and then a nuzzle with the nose.
Perfect.
It turned to walk away again, so I walked forward and nudged the ball back towards the brave beast. Once again it approached, but remembered itself on this occasion and turned away.
Well, that's the first time I have had zebra stop play at a game.
I love living here!
