It's ten pm and we're driving real slow. We are going to the festival, him and I. It's through the mountains and a wind away from the city. The moon is big and bright and Orion is parading high - the dipper can be seen (although never admitted by a southern hemispherian).

I love leaving Pretoria and the thought of music fills me to the brim with happiness. Camping outdoors, beer, people; it's what life should be made of don't you think?

So we can't find the others and decide to park up. The car is a 1975 breed, with seats-down bliss ready to take you to dream land. We head up the koppi (hill) and see the stage. Everything else has finished. Looking at the DJ, the lights from the far away mountains glitter near his shoulders. In this kind of crowd everyone is your friend.

And as the music fades, and night becomes day we head back to the car. I'm in tears. Life has been all a little too much lately and somehow I just can't keep it all locked in. Perhaps it was the tequila, or the mountains or the company. But all I knew is that I wanted to go home.

I still do.
