There's something slightly un-nerving about being able to buy a twelve-year old called 'Ron' for slightly more than a pound, although he is cheaper than 'Brady' at one pound and ten pence!
And no, I did not indulge in 'Grillet Shrimps' or 'Fresh Mussel in Sailor Sauce'. Unfortunately, it was also the wrong season for 'Fresh Mussel Vapour'.
Perhaps this is an indication that Gambian's should not attempt to serve Chinese food, and should stick to the local food, which coincidently is absolutely gorgeous.
However, this was the only place in town that served the local micro-brewery 'Strong' beer (otherwise known as the one with the 'hippo' on). This was rather better than the other two options - the crocodile (export) and blue kingfisher (lite beer).
I'm not sure if there are fewer hippos or hippo-beers in Gambia - a shame either way!
Impressive stuff that such a small developing country should produce three local beers on a large scale, and they were generally better than much of the stuff produced in South Africa. Good for you Gambia - it's nice to be in country that has its priorities right!
Bon Apetitte!
