Well the Night Markets proved fruitful again.............I do not think it is unreasonable of me to want to buy a 12kg wooden Buddha to take home in the first two days of a one month holiday.  Davey has big shoulders and he isnt getting any training while we are away so............  No :-)) he loved it too but it is proving to be a bother considering it didnt fit into the case we had as we thought it would.....

Anyway we left for the 3 day/2 night Mekong Delta tour via bus booked through the Singh Cafe (Pham Ngu Lao District)..... exceptionally reasonable at $110AUD for the two of us.  The Mekong River (River of Nine Dragons) originates high in the Tibetian Plateau and flows 4,500km through Laos, along the Laos/Thailand border, through Cambodia and Vietnam to the South China Sea.  It splits in Phnom Penh, Cambodia into two branches - the Tien Grang (Upper) and Hau Grang (Lower), these both split into several branches that form the waterways of the Mekong Delta.

Our first stop was Cai Be where we took a boat ride through waterways to floating markets.  We stopped at village groups that live along the waterway.  Stopped at a Coconut Candy 'factory'... Hmmm great stuff (dont know if any will make it home). These boats were long, seating approximately 20 people.

Eventually arrived in Chau Doc (on banks of Bassac River), which is on the Cambodian/Vietnam border.  I think everyone on the bus was a bit culture shocked.  Vietnam is a very poor country but this was a challenge.  A few wanted to cut and run on the first day rather than see out the next two.  The hotel was not the best but it was cleanish.  It was situated on the river with a floating deck for dinner however the smell of the river, the mangy cats and the staff peeing of the side rails into the river and hoiking into the river while we ate did not make for a good meal!  We decided to bed early with the ethos that the sooner we slept the sooner we were out of there!
