I titled the last entry 'Over the Hump' referring to the half way point of this trip. Now I feel I'm over the hump mentally, and not just for the trip but for the job. Two weeks ago it was a mental battle to stay positive and hold on, I was stressed out and tired and felt like it was a never ending story. But I'm past that now, and staying positive in any situation is easy to do. To be honest, the pressure from the chef was wearing me out, I was taking it personally and in turn I was negative about almost everything. I've realized though, despite the motives behind the pressure, that the challenge is only making me better as a chef and that staying positive and working hard is only making me stronger. This realization has gotten me over the mental hump and I feel bulletproof. Nothing can stop me from staying on course and no one can get me down. Yesterday I got an opportunity to spend my break off the boat. Some of the crew went for a dive and I got to do a little fishing and go for a snorkel. It was another amazing break in an amazing place. I didn't catch any fish, the snorkel was not incredible, but being out on the water and looking at the CRAZY blue water surrounding the rugged islands, it was amazing, I felt extremely fortunate. Tonight we have a beach BBQ planned and I will be the only chef going. The upside of not going is you get an early night and a chance to play on a jet ski, but I would much rather go to the BBQ and enjoy cooking with my feet in the sand on a remote Tongan island. So yeah, I'm looking forward to working tonight. . . on my 29th straight day of work. POSITIVE VIBRATIONS!!
