Today we hit the one month point people. That means I'm a third of the way through this learning exercise. While some of you may think that means I'm quite far through, for me it's not quite far enough. Not that I don't like Cortona or even, at a push, the kids (I jest), it's just I'd rather spend my gap year doing something a little more exciting than the school run.
In other news, the goddamn painting is almost done. I just have to do (/re-do) the ground then that shiz be finished. Annoyingly, while Livia did have a plan of how she wanted the ground to look when she asked me to paint over what I had done, now she has no idea. Helpful...Still, because she has no idea what to do with that part it meant I spent less time painting today which was nice. Obviously I didn't fill in the time with anything important, interesting or particularly productive, but I had time and that's what counts. That's what you want to read about right? Me doing nothing?
Metta had a friend over today, which was actually quite useful for me. Sure Metta may have got something out of the visit too but I reckon it was mainly so that I would have a chance to practice a little more Italian. Nothing major, obviously. I didn't have an in depth, complex discussion with the girl (called Katerina) but a few sentences were said by both me and her, and, excitingly, mine made sense in relation to hers so it was all good.
An interesting fact I noticed today; all of Metta's extracurricular teachers speak English as a first language; the dance teacher, the cello teacher, the Chinese teacher (Ok her first language is Chinese, but after that it's English, not Italian). I think Livia must have some sort of English radar that can tune in to those who speak it, even if they've only ever spoken Italian around her. Anyway, I found it interesting. That may, however, just be an indication of how low the level of excitement in my life has fallen...
We're off to Florence tomorrow. The family have another party, which I'm hoping Maelys and I don't have to go to. Two children was enough to be around and I have a sneaking suspicion that, being a costume party, it's aimed at children of the smaller variety and, thus, there may be one or two or twenty of them around and about. Either way I'll let you know,
Ciao
