Flag of Italy  , Tuscany,
Friday, January 11, 2013

Alrighty, so today was my day of travelling into the wild unknown of Tuscany. I tell you there is nothing like spending a two hour flight with a child, with that high pitch of voice that you just CAN'T block out, sitting behind you to bring on homicidal thoughts. Despite that the trip went well...until I arrived in Italy. First of all, for those of you who told me it would be nice weather I say to you...HA! Maybe Italy was trying to make me feel at home, but as I stepped off the plane I felt the "refreshing" drops of rain crashing down on me... I then managed to leave the arrivals area before getting my suitcase and thus had to be escorted back through security etc, infront of a large group of people waiting to board a plane, to get it... seasoned traveler, moi? Of course!
Recovering from that public humiliation, I managed to get myself, fairly painlessly, to Perugia train station, aaaand then the trouble began again. I got my ticket, no problem, but finding the right train was a different matter. In the end I hopped on one that I decided was going to the right place. Thankfully I DID end up in Cortona, if not at the right train station. No one ever told me there was more than one in Cortona!
After being picked up by my...would I call her a host?... and a short car journey, the au pair (Jessica) that will be leaving on Monday showed me around Cortona. A quaint little place with steep cobbled streets that promise to give me thighs of steel by the time I return.
Met the children, who seem lovely, if a tad "energetic" (i.e. difficult) and who made me read the same story at least six times. Good thing it was a riveting story about Alfonso the green conjurer...
I'm now off to relax after the excitement of the story,
Ci vediamo!
