First of all - NO BUGS! One of the biggest complaints of all hikers: tons of flies and mosquitos tickling your leg and itchy bites of maddness. Yeah, there was none of that. Just a few sprinkling episodes which leveled the dust and cooled our backs. I'd have to say the highlight of the trip was personal, something so introspective and great it is forever left behind in those snowy peaks and whisps of grass.
Upon first encountering the meadow, the impression of comfort immediately takes over. The surrounding hills and mountain peaks make one want to sing out loud "The hills are alive with the sound of muuuusiiic!" (And I actually took the liberty of belting it out - several times.)Petit alpine flowers and brush litter the landscape and wildlife such as chipmunks, marmots, and a grouse came out of hiding to greet us friendly hikers.
The nights cleared up gradually, and by last night we had the clearest view of the sky, with a meteor shower to shake things up!
My brother, Mr. WildMan, climbed up to two summits while I was content with exploring every crevass of the meadows. I also whimped out when it came to hiking up a few ice fields up to Spider Gap - scrambled up the bordering rocks was pretty thrilling though.
The "cherry on top" would have to be the freeze-dried apple cobbler!
