Many thanks Aselle, for recommending Hotel Medeu. It was really lovely as was our adventure through your homeland. How sorry we were that we didn't manage to meet up with you - but you never know though, one day you might end up holidaying in New Zealand...
We arrived at the Russian border at 10.45am and sailed through at 2pm. Aaaah, what a doddle that was with the major holdup being everything closing up for an hour at lunchtime. Not that we minded though, as we were very close to the front, in the car queue, our thermos flasks full and our picnic basket full of goodies. We're learning! After the official lunch break we were taken through to complete various documents, one important one being for Russian car insurance. That was a bit of a problem and we were wishing we had bought it at one of three booths on the Kazakh. side of the border
It was only a short drive to our hotel in Chelyabinsk so we stopped of for a (real) coffee at a roadside cafe. (Not at all like the flash cafes you frequent)! And, once again, our wheel cover attracted all the attention, not us.
As we pulled into our hotel Dave notice a couple of motor bikes parked alongside bearing the Scottish flag and upon making enquires, we eventually met Gordon and Tom who are travelling from Scotland around the world. Really nice guys, retired policemen and doing a charity trip for a disabled Bikers. (www.transglobemoto.com). We met up with them (they are heading to Kazakhstan tomorrow) later in the evening for dinner...at an Irish Pub with the menus in English! A great night, swapping tales and hints. Keep safe, guys.
We stayed at Hotel Meridian, a lovely hotel with unlimited WiFi (such a bonus). Olga, the hotel receptionist, who speaks amazing English, made us feel so welcome. Thanks, Olga, we can thoroughly recommend your hotel.
p.s. We have posted the pic's for the last few days.
