Here we are, at the Los Angeles airport, at only 8:00. Actually, back home in North Carolina, we would call it 11:00, but you know how stubborn we North Carolinians are. We've been having trouble getting our boarding passes for the flight from Sydney to Christchurch, and hope to get this taken care of now. I'm writing this on a rent-a-computer, and the fold-down keyboard is annoying. The LA airport is huge, and traffic runs on more than 1 level. I have 3 minutes left now so I must be concise. I hope everyone back home is doing fine, and would appreciate it if someone from school would periodally mail me news. Gotta go now,

Update:
After several hours in the airport and a few sitting on the runway, then a few back in the airport, we are delayed for a day in LA due to mechanical difficulties. We fly for Sydney tomorrow at 9 pm. We're disappointed, but the airline is putting us up and feeding us, and at this point we just want to sleep. Stay tuned.

Getting out of LA
Ah yes... Getting out of LA is the toughest part. After that you're golden. You may know that there's a 24 hour gym within a half-mile of the terminals. I have been stuck at the LA airport for over eight hours and the gym was a blessing.

Dear Syndey, Jim and Mary Ellen. Jerry and I left from LAX airport too in 1996 - sorry you were delayed - I know it is disappointing - but you will get there! See if you can hang out in one of the Clubs - The US Air club for Jerry has been a savior. We look forward to reading about your adventures! Be SAFE!
