What I did
Today we set off for our first part of the tour, with a visit to Topkapi Palace. It was a bit overcast with light showers, so a jacket was called for. An interesting drive down alongside the Bosphorus Strait and over the Gallata Bridge and we were delivered to the Palace entrance. Like all attractions first you must pass through security before you can enter, then on to see the wonders of the Palace. The jewelry and treasures on display were spectacular, especially the Spoonmakers diamond and a crystal box of emeralds.
Next up we visited Hagia Sofia, a beautiful and amazing temple. Built in the sixth century it an architectural wonder, and the beautiful decorations are amazing, so much opulence and ancient beauty in one place.
Lunch was at the Pudding Shop, where kebabs were the order of the day. I was introduced to the owner of the restaurant and when he found out I was a kiwi he came back with a flyer the shop had produced to commemorate the 97th anniversary of ANZAC day.
To finish today's tour we visited the Blue Mosque where we saw the exquisite porcelain tiles that decorate the walls in lovely shades of Turquoise and Blue, hence the name of the mosque.
Tonight dinner is at a cultural show with folk dancing and belly dancing, should be interesting.
