After a quick bite of brekkie at the hotel, we spent the day walking about town, following our fearless leader. The first "sight" I noticed was a statue of a man (later learned this is Sigmund Freud) hanging well above the buildings. Continuing around, we passed the many coloured buildings, housing cafes, and shops. Eventually we came to the central plaza where we saw the Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock; you can't miss The Church of the Virgin Mary before Tyn across the plaza. Next we stopped into the Church of St. Nicholas, as we wound our way down the cobblestone streets to the famous Charles Bridge, and onward to St. Vitus Cathedral & St. George's Basilica, via Prague Castle. We stopped at a restaurant along the way where I had my first (and only) taste of Absinthe, a memory I will not soon forget...er, I may have spoken too soon. We meandered on our way back, and found a great spot to warm our cockles, where I had an espresso as I longingly watched my travel-mates thoroughly enjoy what they described as "the best hot chocolate, ever" (what a time for a lactose-intolerant chocoholic to have forgotten his lactase at home; if I'd only known enough Czech to find some, or any at all). Closer to the river, two of our fearsome fivesome found some libations in an establishment off the courtyard at Na Kampe, as the rest of us made our way past the locks of love to the Lennon Wall; I was impressed by the impact this wall had in Czech history. We re-joined our well-lubricated compatriots for a quick one before heading to dinner. After dinner we made our way back toward the hotel and enroute happened by Jazz Republic, where we took in the fantastic sounds of a local musician with backing from a couple of others who I observed to be in awe of the man and with good reason. Together they dropped fantastic rock classics from the likes of Cream and Dire Straits. I bought a T-shirt from the venue (not as great as the one I photographed), and a CD of original Jazz from the musician. Back to the hotel to rest up for tomorrow!
