I keep coming back to the Thai Elephant Conservation Camp in Lampang!  In 2006 I did the 3 day Mahout Training Program with the homestay. Last February I came with my niece, Ellen, and now, I am happy to bring my son, David for this really unusual experience.

Because we have all seen these photos of me before, I am limiting the number posted! If you are checking out the blog, please know that the Thai Elephant Conservation Camp program is the best of the "mahout training programs" in Thailand. The TECC elephants really enjoy their work. In fact, I think these eles would be bored without their "jobs." I see how much they enjoy their mahouts and visitors and their forest rest at the end of a busy day!

If however, you want a really pure ecotourism one on one elephant experience, then do go to Sukhothai to Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary. www.blesele.org
There you will not find rides or elephants painting, or shows. Rather, the rescued elephants at BLES are protected and respected, just being elephants. Be sure to read my Sukhothai blog from last year about BLES and help Katherine in her efforts to establish elephant clinics/hospitals to meet the needs of the many elephants who cannot travel to Lampang when in need of care.

And if you are near Lampang, (one hour from Chiang Mai) you will not regret a visit to TECC! David and I had a wonderful and beautiful day there!
