From Khon Kaen we traveled to Koh Samet. Our dear friends Bruria and Hanan from Israel met us in the Bangkok airport for the journey to Ko Samet. Samed Resorts sent a van for us. On the way, it was fun to hear about their trip to Chiang Mai and Sukhothai, and to share our experiences of the past weeks too.

We arrived at the Samed Resorts pier and reception. An impressive speedboat was waiting for us. The sun was setting. The short ride to Ao Prao beach was a treat.
We stayed at Le Virmarn and David had a bungalow in Ao Prao Resort. The Ao Prao Beach is quiet. With only 3 resorts on this beach, it is very different from the nearby Silver Sand, and Vongduen beaches.

Noah and Sumalai, Lynn and Faye, Megan and Aaron, arrived on Friday along with other friends. By Saturday evening, Sumalai's family and all of the wedding couple's friends, most of whom were staying at the Vongduen Village resort, had come too.
We had a meeting to review details with Khun Dtai, the resort's enthusiastic wedding coordinator, and Khun Somnuk, the helpful manager at Le Virmarn. They are a terrific team and together, they can make anything happen! Mark and I were relieved and reassured that the le Virmarn staff had everything planned perfectly and under control. Later, we learned that our 70 + guest list was just about the largest, and our ceremony and party was one of the most unusual ones held at Le Virmarn and Ao Prao to date.

At Ao Prao and Le Virmarn, the resort staff is plentiful. And they can't do enough for you. From towels and chairs at the beach and pool, and extras for our room, to any special requests, we were always greeted cheerfullyby everyone and were well taken care of.
Mark and I were very happy to just relax at Le Virmarn and visit with our family and friends. All of Noah and Sumalai's friends who came to this destination wedding were so lovely and friendly to us. It was an interesting, international, and multicultural group and we enjoyed getting to know everyone.

On Friday, I delivered the welcome bags to the various hotels for the wedding guests. that involved taking a songthaw taxi, an open pickup truck with benches, across the island. It only takes about 15 minutes but bouncy, and dusty is an understatement. On Saturday evening the young people partied at the wilder, noisier, and cheaper eats at Vongduen beach. Well, it was certainly wilder and noisier with Noah and friends there. They returned to Ao Prao and continued their party with flaming drinks at th Buzz Bar at le Virmarn.

Upstairs we found the resort staff busy with making decorations for the wedding. I have never seen so many flowers; orchids and roses in shades of white and pink and purple and greens. All of the ceremonial trays for the wedding were being prepared. This involved hand stringing small white and yellow flowers (like popcorn) and hand stapling banana and palm leavesinto the desired size and shape to deorate the trays. I went to bed:). The kids said that the staffwas still working at 2:00AM when they left Buzz. They must have worked on the flowers the entire night! When you see the photos, do notice the beautiful details of the ceremonial platters, the flowers and other decorations.

I had described a chuppah to Khun Dtai and Khun Somnuk. We looked at some photos and I left this detail, to them. Watching the chuppah construction was fun. And once decorated, on sunday morning, oh, it was elegant and tasteful and beautiful. I don't think there is any guest services related request that the Le Virmarn staff cannot deliver.

So I cannot say enough good things about the Le Virmarn and the Ao Prao staff. We could not have been more pleased with everything! But in Thailand, even the Royal Family knows this! When we arrived on Thursday and Friday, the King's great grandaughter, referred to as a 'princess," was in residence. Her grandmother, also a princess, came in for dinner on a royal yacht, accompanied by a small army of military and police escorts.  Yes, at Le Virmarn Cottages and Spa and Ao Prao Resort, we were treated as she was, like royalty!
It is a great place for a beautiful and relaxing visit by the sea, and the perfect place for a destination wedding! Good choice, Noah and Sumalai.
