Note, pictures were added of Sydney to the first entry.

We came to the conclusion that Australia is 40% more expensive than the US. We a used the very scientific method to determine this.  In the US Subway has $5 footlongs.  Here they are $7, or 40% more.  Another thing that is hard to remember is that nothing is included when you order food.  In Ulladalla the tartar sauce and ketchup was extra.  Here with the Chinese food the rice was extra.  I won't get into all the crazy bad karma charging 50 cents for the fortune cookie is.  You would think the people working these places would tell you when you order half a meal, but that would make too much sense.

Anyways.  Today we went nowhere.  Which means we spend more time in the city of Eden than in Sydney.  Funny considering how small Eden is.  But the goal was to get out and see Australia and not spend all our time in one of the cities.  Plus the weather would have made it a little unpleasant for riding today.  It was cold and pissing down rain all day today.  I think after 500 km of riding in the rain we proved to ourselves that we can do it, but choose not to.

Not much went on today, but that is what vacation is all about.  A little shopping and finally watched Land of the Lost on DVD.  We did visit the Whaling museum here.  This city was a major whaling port back in the day.  Crazy enough Orca’s would help them hunt the sperm whales.  We thought this was a joke but the Orca would herd the sperm whale into the harbor.  The Orcas would sometimes even pull the fishing boats ropes to help them along.  Out of this the Orcas would eat the tongue of the whale and the fishermen would get the rest.  Hard to believe but the museum had photo’s of this.  I also learned the interesting fact in the Orca is the only whale that eats fish and warm blooded mammals.

I did score a one up on Eivind.  Today I got a killer umbrella.  Needless to say I had to rub it in and now he has the umbrella envy.  I still say he lost his and stole mine.

Thankfully tomorrow the rain is supposed to clear.  Looking at the weather it is only on the coast where we are at.  If we were a few hundred km west we would be in the clear.  But that is half the fun.  The plan is to head to the beach tomorrow night.  Maybe even find a place on the beach to camp.  From there it is to Melbourne where we will catch the ferry to Tasmania.  We are pushing along nicely with the km.  It is still up in the air if we want to go to Alice Springs.  It is what you picture when you think of Australia.  But it is supposed to be really touristy.  Not going there would give us 4 more days worth of time to spend other places.  Who knows.  We are planning on spending some time in Tasmania.  There are a few hostels to stay at and the thought of being around people close to our age for a weekend is too much to pass up.  Plus the pictures for the hiking, fishing, and boating look too good to pass up.

Now hopefully tonight we will make it past 8pm.  I think we are both catching up on a lot of sleep.  Something about working too much, I don’t know just throwing that out there.
