So my plan for Monday had been to go to Casa Lopez and buy new handbags, I'd been looking forward to replacing the last lot of handbags they'd been kind enough to furnish me with. And I was going to stroke the mink coats in a vaguely yearning way.
But then I got an offer to have lunch in Uruguay and the lure of visiting a whole new extra unscheduled country when I was on my last 24 hours of travelling time won out, so here, is Uruguay, only an hour by boat from Buenos Aires.
The missing bit of information that the boat company didn't give me was the not only is it an hour away from Buenos Aires, it's an hour ahead timewise. So after a lovely lunch, I wander back down to the port to catch the boat back. No boat. As I get to the empty terminal building, I think it's empty as one of the locals has told us the sunsets across the River Plate to Buenos Aires are sensational, so I assumed everybody had stayed to watch it. Nooooooo!
Fortunately - and I'm sure this happens with many dim English tourists who are horologically challenged - they run a late boat. So I did get to see the sunset and I did get back to my hotel before I turned into a pumpkin at midnight. And I did make the rest of my flight connections, which had been my presiding anxiety.
And that folks, is it. I am now in the airport at SÃo Paulo, waiting for my overnight flight to London and my travels - other than the commute from Crouch End into town - are over for 2012.
But will 2013 will be a whole new year to play with (errm, once I've knuckled down and earned some money).
Will be great to see you all again x
