The experience of a life time. You think it doesn't matter where I work if I’m in Australia I don’t mind what I do. But after refusing to become a smoothie slave I recoup to the safety net of a telefundraiser. And oh how the life soon becomes sucked out of me. But I don’t have to do anything strenuous and the money is so good....but every time someone picks of the phone and I start my schpeal something dies inside me. I would actually prefer working in MacDonald’s...and this is not a metaphor...I would flip burgers over this any day.

'Yes I really understand that its Christmas, and you have no job and four kids of your own to feed’ but the cancer council really needs your ‘urgent help’ and surely you can spare just 5 dollars a week?’.

But no one else seems to feel so strongly, and for that I envy them. Some of them have managed to sustain this crazy feeling that they are doing good and following ethical fundraising procedures by making these calls for two years. One guy is even a qualified lawyer...speaking 3 languages including Russian. And he’s doing this! So I know I should wind my neck back in...But it’s so hard!

But I will try...six days a week...to be an actress....or Worsel Gummage?? (Mums suggestion I don’t really know where she was going with this one, something about him having a telephone head or something). And I will look forward to my one day off, on a Sunday to enjoy Paddy's market. What is it about markets, I love them, so much fun... exactly like Malaysia ‘cheaper cheaper’ everyone thrusting their oranges in your face...and my guy...perhaps the reason I visit the market every Sunday without fail I'm not sure...I love to watch him switch from mandarin to ozzie accent to asking me about football...dam it why don’t I pay attention to football. I try other peoples oranges on a nearby stall and he hollars me across the crowd, mine is sweeter, come here try mine.

On the job front...I'm really hoping it won't be like this for long. That big opportunity is coming my way (I hope to god). And for now I will pay the 100 dollars to do the Responsible Service of Alcohol course, which is necessary to get a job in any bar and is region specific, so useless anywhere else but Sydney. And there will be plenty more random crazy jobs throughout this year...Because this is what backpackers do, in exchange for creating these memories, so that when were old and hagged and got a mortgage to pay we can have no regrets, because we took chances, risks and lived out of a bag..In order to live life to the full :)
