I spent the next day sitting at the back of the truck… BIG mistake. The road out of Loralai began well, but soon deteriorated into nothing more than a dirt track. Becki and I spent the day holding our breasts into our bras. We headed off a plane with mountains around and stopped for lunch when we had been abandoned by our police escort. I was helping to chop up vegetables and unknowingly started a vegetable war with Adam by throwing the waste out the window of the truck. I was then faced with a barrage of vegetable peels and rinds thrown at my window (luckily I have the reflexes of a fox, so was able to close my window quick enough to avoid being hit in the face)! Soon after this we passed a sign welcoming us to Punjab and we all celebrated finally being out of Baluchistan! We navigated our way down a steep mountain pass and were eventually picked up by our escort again just outside the town of Dera Ghazi Khan. The police escorted us straight to their compound where we were all made to get off the truck and have our passports inspected. They were all slightly nervous and anticipant as we weren't quite sure what was going on, but as soon as they brought us cold Coca-Cola we were happy enough. Finally, at about 8pm, we set off following our escort into the night at breakneck speed, attempting to get some fried chicken and samosas down us. The road was smooth enough, but we didn’t reach Moltan until 1am. Poor Adam was fed up and nobody was impressed by these so-called 'elite’ Punjabi police. This was the same team of police that was looking after the Sri-Lankan cricket team earlier in the year… It was still hot pitching our tents in the middle of the night and all of us were frustrated and annoyed with Pakistan, headscarves, the police and the heat. India is the Promised Land…
