Ended up staying for 5 days at Seager and Sue's place, our other main jobs included picking veg, sorting onions and moving a hell of a lot of firewood from a big pile and organising and stacking it in the woodshed. We decided we deserved a bit of a treat after woofing so headed to Motueka to stay at 'Tipi Stay' a hostel where (surprisingly!) you stay in tipis or a yurt. It was really cool, there was a little fireplace in the centre to keep us warm at night and lots of native american type decorations (e.g. scalps, wings, bits of hair, other scary stuff). We met some nice English people there as well, so had an evening sitting round the fire chatting to them in the little wooden cabin.
Next we headed up to Takaka staying at Shambala, an eco hostel, on the way. It had beautiful views of the sea but we didnt think it was particularly 'eco' in comparison with any of the places we've wwoofed at and was really difficult to get to! We did a couple of walks in the area and went to see the largest freshwater spring. We also headed up to Collingwood which is the most southerly town on south island and to see the lighthouse at Farewell Spit which had amazing panoramic views. Takaka area is probably the prettiest i've seen in New Zealand, it feels very much like i picture New Zealand to be and is very green in contrast to the rest of the country. We tried to get a wwoofing place up there ended up ringing about 10 different people but no one wanted us! Quite frustrating.
Decided we couldnt really hang around up there much longer with nothing to do, so we headed down and across country to the East coast.
