After checking the weather yesterday, and seeing that today only had a 30% chance of rain, where as the rest of the week has a 50% chance, I booked a bamboo boat tour to down the Li River to Xingping and eventually to Yangshuo. But when I woke up this morning it was pouring. I didn't feel too bad since several locals told me that it always rains before the Dragon Boat Festival on Wednesday, but I was slightly disappointed, not know how visible the sights would be. So I packed my stuff and headed out to the bus, umbrella in hand.
The bus took us to a village about an hour away where we got on out 'bamboo boat'. The boat was a typical flat bottom fishing boat and the only thing bamboo about it was the 2 person chairs. It did have canopy, which my fellow passengers and I were quite happy about as the rain continued to fall. The scenery was stunning as soon as we got on the boat and the rain made for some nice misty mountain shots. The river cruse was about 2 hours long and it was well worth the 120 RMB. Our boat driver didn't speak English nor did he really say anything for that matter during the cruse, except asking me if we wanted to stop and eat at a small fishing village. I guess it turns out that my Chinese is not so bad after all :-)
Regardless of the weather, the cruse was quite relaxing and the scenery did indeed live up to its world famous reputation. Now to explore Yangshuo for a few days.
