I write to you now from Las Vegas, Nevada. "VEGAS, BABY!"

Earlier I was hungover and smelly, then I was clean and mostly recovered, now I'm tired and winding down (I’ve been writing this blog in bits and pieces lol) ...but we can come to this in the proper order right?

Yesterday morning we packed up at the Bug and left Yosemite behind. We had to backtrack towards San Fran before going South, then East, then North again – it was all quite roundabout and slow. All because the mountain pass going straight through was shut in winter. Ahh well. At first it was amusing, we’d all sit about and chat or joke or read or watch the scenery, etc. But after about two hours that little seat became a crampy hell XD So we had to stop to “pee” quite regularly!

We crossed the Sierra Nevada mountains finally, and I was so surprised! On one side of the pass it is green (a little white from snow too lol), trees and plants all over, rocks jutting out of the ground, and generally beautiful. On the other side, it was suddenly big flat desert! It makes sense, I know, the mountains are so high they have different weather on each side (the term Foehn wind occurred to me as well) but for me it was still a shock.

So we stopped for lunch in the desert, which I think is more of a semi-arid region as there seems to be plenty of water still, at a town called Mojave (Mo-Hah-Vee). Subway was a nice reminder of home, although I confused the poor woman when I asked for capsicums! Oops “peppers” around here :P A local man decided we should 'take Obama with us when we go home because he is a socialist and no Americans want to be communist so he’s gonna ruin the country, worst thing to ever happen to usa’, blah blah... Everyone chose not to get involved with his strange ideas, and smiled and nodded politely! Sometimes it’s safer to not correct others or speak your mind haha.

Many hours more driving later, we finally arrived in ... Las Vegas, baby! Party town! Cheers went up, we were excited, then we got stuck in traffic. Some fool tried to destroy themselves and their car and managed to take out some other cars too – it looked really horrific. Well Mike pulled some awesome driving skills (especially considering his van and trailer size!) and got us through pretty quick :D

The Super 8 motel is large (the largest in the USA, as they keep telling us) and looks like a nice spot. The rooms are HUGE and each individual gets a double bed! That’s crazy talk, at first I thought it was just cos it’s Vegas, baby! But we have been assured this is normal for this kind of motel.

After a brief respite in our rooms, showers, changing etc, we ate some Korean takeout in one of the ladies’ rooms, and had some drinks too. Then we went out for some “Vegas Fun”, as planned by Mike – for $25 each, we got to cruise the strip in a stretch hummer limo for an hour and a half! We stopped also for a cool light show involving the American pie song, a pee stop, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, a pee stop, and finally the enormous fountain at the Belaggio. It. Was. AWESOME. The cheer, “VEGAS BABY” got used until my throat was coarse haha... So yeah, I drank a lot, and had a simply fantastic time hanging out the window making random strangers give me a thumbs up. Several sparkling wines (beers, in Matt’s case) later, after the limo ride, some members of the group were ready for a night of clubbing, but after some wandering about in the cold (many more pee stops required) I decided I was done. Matt and I departed and headed for the golden arches for some drunken munchies, and found the British women who had previously become separated from the groups! Random stuff happens in VEGAS, BABY! Took a cab together back to the hotel, which was quite cheap, and then I pretty much passed out. I’m really glad that I insisted we go home when we did (despite Matt’s protests, later becoming grateful also) as I woke up with a dizzy hangover as it was :( coffee and breakfast cured me, so anything more would have made shopping this morning intolerable. Yes that’s right, Mike took us out to an outlet mall for some shopping at 10am, after all that crazy partying! A few girls didn’t make it, which left more room in the van for shopping bags :D So, I went from stinky (no clean clothes) and hungry to clean, refreshed and feeling great from all those good buys! We found some great specials at the Disney Store and Columbia, Matt even got a really good snow jacket for $US25! VEGAS BABY! At home, that’d be closer to $200... crazy... But, I think that lunch at the food court was not such a good idea – my calzone wasn’t bad, but it made me a bit sick. I am still suffering from it D:

So we basically got the rest of the day to do what we wanted. After doing our laundry, I took a nap in our room while Matt caught up on the news, we also lent the laptop out for others to use :P I am pretty sure we agreed to lend it to more than 2 people, but the timing must have been out a little. A few other ladies were seeing The Lion King tonight, so we figured that it was time to see a show in VEGAS BABY!! We really wanted to see Penn and Teller, and even found a nice discount website to get cheap tickets from but... for some reason they weren’t showing tonight :’( We ended up going for some kind of ‘mind trick’ show called ‘the Mentalist’, but it wasn’t all that great. A bit like Derren Brown, which we love, except this guy tried to use terms like “psychometry” and “intuition” to explain what he was doing which is a load of crap. Also I didn’t get to participate and I wanted to see what he’d say! Matt was frightened of having to participate so he was nervous the whole time too lol. Well it wasn’t a bad show and it didn’t cost much, so it was still good, but next time... I am seeing Penn and Teller one way or another! :P The V theatre was located at the ‘miracle mile’ shopping centre, we eventually found out, which is – you guessed it – a mile of shops :P We grabbed some souvenirs, walked around, got some incredibly sweet mochas (this did NOT help my stomach issues any) and enjoyed the scenery. The place is painted and lit to look like perpetual dusk, even the ceiling has clouds and looks amazingly real! It was hard not to get sucked into the illusion, so I just went with it and enjoyed going to see a show at dusk, coming out at dusk, having dinner at dusk, etc...

Speaking of dinner, Matt wanted steak, as usual, but we couldn’t be arsed waiting for a seat in the steakhouse that was recommended to us so we stopped in at Blondies bar in the shopping centre. It was an amusing place, full of sports videos and waitresses dressed at cheerleaders. Guys were enjoying drinking games in the corner and the music was way too loud! So Matt got his steak, and I wanted lemonade to help my stomach but forgot that it’s basically lemon cordial here. I should’ve asked for Sprite, oh well :/ My order was a little out of the ordinary (why not? I’m in VEGAS BABY! Lol)  - can chicken! It was described as chicken cooked with a can of lime beer up its butt, which sounded good and moist to me. What I didn’t realise was they served you THE WHOLE CHICKEN. I ate up the mountain of broccoli, and found room for about half the chicken and none of the gravy – it was really yummy, but too much food! Typically Vegas, baby :)

Now we have walked back to the hotel, and just winding down. Tomorrow morning there’s another long bus ride to the Grand Canyon, where the weather report shows it might be a bit chilly... good thing we got snow geared up in VEGAS, BABY! (I’ll never get tired of this)

Have a great night y’all, I needa rest up and drink up (only water, don’t worry ;) )

Oh and one last thing... VEGAS BABY! YEAH!
