Gruss Got, and welcome to Linz!

My final day in Vienna, yesterday, was spent doing not much at all. By late afternoon my book supply had run out, and I made a short venture to the city to buy more - of course, nothing is open on a Sunday in Vienna, except souvenir shops. So I got a couple of souvenirs, snapped some statues I hadn't seen, and headed home.
I had decided to get some food from the supermarket near the hotel, but of course they weren't open either, so after breakfast I ate nothing but a packet of Pringles. But it's not as bad as it sounds, because I wasn't feeling too good anyway and doubt I would have eaten very much at all anyway.

This morning I ate a very huge breakfast, seeing as it was my last all-you-can-eat brekky, cleaned up my room, paid my rates and headed off for Linz. The train was very comfortable and not very full, so I had room for my many bags. Another man sat in the same compartment thing as me, and he was very trusting - he went away for 10 minutes (where did he go? I can't say!) during the trip and just left me with his bags and jacket and stuff. Did it occur to him I might sneak something out? Obviously not! He also slept for his entire journey, which was about one hour.
Another hour later I arrived in Linz, and I think the train station here is much prettier than the ones I saw in Vienna. Maybe that's because Linz has been crowned Culture Capital of Europe in 2009, and so they're spicing everything up?
The tram was also easy to navigate, and half an hour later I was entering my room here, on the fourth floor, with a not-too-shabby view. After organising my payment and getting an ID card, I found my way to the cafeteria where I got a meal despite the kitchen being closed (thankyou!). It's good that they were nice, because I had neglected lunch in my travels and I had a feeling dinner would be even more annoying to acquire than in Vienna.   It was a huge meal of chicken with ratatouille sauce and rice, a meat n broth soupy thing, a berliner-type cake, salads and a bottle of water for the pretty damn good price of €6,60! I was impressed.
So I'm now sitting in my cold room trying to figure out the radiator and putting off putting my clothes away because I only just went to the effort of packing them up this morning! Ah well. Another thing... the website said you could get cable in your room. It didn't mention that for that to happen one needs their own TV. Damnit! :P

I will probably update again in a week, once the conference is over, to let you know how it went and put some pictures up.

Aud wiedersehn, and cyas later! Xoxoxo

Hugs from a long distance away!
Noni! I've just stayed up waaay past my bedtime reading your blogs! I couldn't stop reading, so excited and seeing things through your eyes and you woke up a whole HEAP of memories from my own travelling. I wish I did this online blog, its GREAT. excllent record (i have a few journal entries on random bits of paper i think..ha)

I haven't been on the net since you left, i didn't think you were going to be updating like this (hence having to stay awake and read it all in one go, too hot to sleep anyway I tells ya)

damn, I want to comment on every comment you made but I AM about to fall over here. 3.45am. pfft.

isn't it so amazingly fantastic how alive and weird you feel? and different? like being a kid and everything you look at is new and you don't understand how it works and you can't communicate your desires properly and sometimes you just despair and feel lonely but other times you're so excited and your eyes just want to drink in everything!

and it makes you realise how YOUNG australia is, how short our history is, when you look at the buildings and art and and...well. you're there, you know!

and yes, dont trust fast food! it looks familiar but will prob give you grief (did with me, thought 'oh, I know that, that's safe. bad call! much better to eat local. just try to identify what meats/veg are in it..ah, actually sometimes its fun to not even think about that)
wish I could flip over and be there with you. i should email you pm instead of ranting here. your friends and family will be thinking I'm a bit much :D

love you enjoy and keep reporting.
go Noni go!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hope you're having a good time at the conferenece and have the heater working. We've been chasing frogs and lizards all over the Internet for people frantically trying to get pictures together for an Aboriginal art exhibition in April. I had no idea the sandhills are full of frogs!
