DOMINIQUE HERE:

Day : 459
Temperature : 30 degrees
Weather : Same same

7 hours on pot hole ridden roads. Goats, cows, donkeys, ostriches and the odd giraffe running out infront of the car. Veterinary inspections and police inspections. Yes, driving in Botswana is exhausting.

However, we finally arrived safe and well in Maun, ready to make arrangements for the Okavango Delta. First of all we had to decide whether we would take a daily Safari tour (as we had done in Chobe and which turned out to be disastrous), or whether we would take a three day organised Safari tour, (expensive and still risky), or whether we would see if we could hire a 4x4 and book up accommodation ourselves. We decided on the latter, unable to bear yet another safari tour with a bunch of people that wanted to take photos of impala or hornbills.....not that there is anything wrong with that...I mean, we have all been there. But on this our last few days on Safari, and in the Okavango Delta of all places, we need independence. If we want to spend 3 hours with a herd of elephants we can. We don't want to come upon a lion and be whisked away after 10 minutes after everyone else had ticked "lion" off the list and were ready to move to find something else. And so, we organised a 4x4, booked a camp site, and paid the entrance fee into Moremi. Decision made.

All that was left to do was spend the next couple of days by the pool and take a Mokoro trip out into the river systems for a bit of bird watching. Perfect!
