DOMINIQUE HERE

Galapagos Day 7

Day : 327
Temperature : 32 degrees
Weather : Rainy, rainy, rainy…and a little sunshine

Well, it rained a lot today. And when it rains here, it REALLY rains! We are here in "rainy season" so I guess we cannot complain too much, but it does mean that you cannot step one foot outside…so photography, wildlife watching, and lounging on the beach are all off. So we spent most of the day in some random café ordering teas and coffees and editing photos and catching up on emails.

Galapagos Day 8

Day 328

The sun shone today for a spectacular sunrise. Unfortunately I couldn't really muster much enthusiasm at 5.30am having only managed about one and a half hours sleep last night. For some unknown reason I lay awake thinking about random things until 1am, at which time I must have dozed off, only to be awoken at 2am by banging on doors, shouting and laughing by some inconsiderate drunken Ecuadorian guests who were staying in the room next door. Infuriating! After 10 minutes of trying to ignore the 100 decibel noise reverberating around the hotel, I couldn’t stand it any longer and opened our bedroom door and promptly let loose on a major Spanglish rant! They kind of apologised, then proceeded to continue laughing and shouting in the corridor and in their room for the next 2  hours…..and surprise, surprise, even when I got out of bed a second time to plead with them to shut up it made no difference at all! And so I found myself still awake at 4.30am with our alarm set to go off at 5am! Marvellous!

Anyway, today Mark was leaving on his boat tour, and so after a sunrise photography session and an early breakfast we said our goodbyes and he went on his way. Kevin and I ventured once again up to see the tortoises which were much more animated than the last time we visited them.

During the afternoon the heavens opened for the regular afternoon rain shower, but soon cleared again just in time for another lovely sunset as we stood on the jetty and watched the frigate birds, pelicans, boobies, eagle rays and sea lions.

Tomorrow is our last day here in Santa Cruz before we head over to San Cristobal where we will stay for a few days before heading off on our liveaboard. I cannot believe how fast time is flying!
