I woke up this morning full of excitement for the day ahead. Then I tried to move. My limbs ached and joints creaked as my body refused to follow instructions from my brain...I think yesterday's surfing lesson made me use muscles that I hadn't used for months! Nevertheless, we packed up and left Porpoise Bay heading further up the coast.
We arrived early for our horse riding trip....We'd booked three hours over farmland, forest and onto the beach at the Te Taunga Riding School in Surat Bay
We headed up over the hills and had some great views of the bays and the family's farmland. Cara provided us with info on all the areas of interest and some history of the family's farm and the riding school. When Kevin began trailing behind, Cara called out with a laugh, "Have you forgotten to take the parking break of Keeevin?!" It soon became clear that Beau had quite a personality, as at one point, half way down a steep hill, he decided to walk into a bush so that he could give his backside a good scratch, much to Kevin's amusement.
We continued on over farmland until we reached an area covered with yellow lupins. We passed through the lupins and over the dunes onto the beach where we were met with a sea lion sleeping on the sand. We crossed over onto another beach, where I was given a brief lesson on how to canter. Pam was feeling reluctant to break into a sweat and my riding skills are limited to say the least, and so a couple of tips were definitely needed
We followed the river round into Surat Bay, and then up onto a short stretch on the lane before heading back over farmland to the stables. Pam and Beau were rewarded with an apple each, and Kevin and I were rewarded with extremely sore bums!
It was a great ride....Kevin now wants to move out here and buy a horse!
