KEVIN HERE

Day : 148
Weather : Hot and sunny
Temperature : 32 degrees

After 2 months in Indonesia we had to leave to get a new Visa.  Well that was  what we were planning to do, but during the last few days in Manado, we both must have been thinking the same thing.  Do we want to come back to Indonesia for a further 2 months?   After thinking for a while, and chatting for about 5 Min's, and after another bowl of Nasi Goreng!!!, we decided to try and get back to some easy travelling for a while.  Now I think you guys back home must think the whole trip is fun and easy, but I can tell you there are only so many 14 hour mini bus trips you can take.  What with ducks and chickens running about the bus, and 21 people managing to fit into a 12 seater bus!!

We had the flight to Singapore booked for a month, but our plans were always to head east, then south to Australia.  Well we have decided to head north, to Thailand and then on to Laos Vietnam, and Cambodia.   We  now had 3 days to enjoy Singapore, before we planned to fly to Bangkok on 10th Oct.

After the usual 2 hour delay on Lion air; which did allow us to check out the diving in The Similan Islands, we finally got onto the flight.  We landed at 10pm local time in Singapore, thinking we would have the usual 1 hour in the Airport to clear customs and get our bags.  Well what a surprise!  We landed at 10pm and by 10.15pm we were in the taxi!! Can you believe it, no queues at customs, only 2 min's here, 2 min's to get the bags!! The other 10 min's was used walking from the plane to the taxi!  We could not have been happier.

During our 3 days here, we really felt that Singapore is the friendliest place we have been to on our travels.  On the first morning, while we were heading down to Nikon Service centre; which is another story I will fill in on shortly, we got lost.  Well within 2 min's of getting lost, we got out the map, and locals came up to us and helped us straight  away.  Even on the bus, where you need the exact money,a lady straight away opened her purse and exchanged our 10 $ note for ten  1 $ bills.  This would not even happen in the UK.

The main advantage is that everyone speaks English.  So communication is so easy.

During day 1 we headed out,  to see the sights of Singapore.  We have been to many cities on our trip, but so far KL and Singapore stand out as the best.  Singapore is so clean, no rubbish anywhere!!! What a difference compaired to Indonesia, where we have seen so much rubbish.  I will let the photos do the talking.

On Day 2 we continued our photo trip around the city.  We decided to travel on the Singapore Flyer, which is basically the same as the London Eye.  This really gave us the chance to see the whole of the city from up high.  Singapore is seriously impressive when it comes to adding new buildings to the city, everything is well planned and placed around the city.  We spent the afternoon at a huge shopping mall, which seemed to have every designer label known to man.  It even had a huge casino!!

We head off back to Bangkok tomorrow, so we can continue our first plan which was to go through onto Vietnam.

Bye for now.
