Don't really feel like writing a boring, fullout summary, so i'll try to encapsulate some of my experiences.

*once settled into my hostel, i set off with a finnish guy - pete - i met on the bus. we rented a motorbike - he drove - and we set off exploring the sand dunes mui ne is known for. i forgot to ask for a helmet, and quickly regretted the fact that i have thus far neglected to create a living will. he's a good driver, but i should be roadkill. rented a motorbike myself the following day, and that reaffirmed my belief that i should be a puddle of goo.

*the sand dunes reminded me of wadi rum. well, more like a wadi rum with tons of water and plant life. maybe wadi rum meets aqaba meet the sand dunes in michigan. forgot to take any pictures though.

*bracelets are popular items here. in saigon tyn ('teen', and can't remember the actual spelling), one of mylinh's friends we had met up with a couple times, gave me one of the bracelets she had been wearing as a new year gift. she thought my msai bracelet was pretty cool, so she got that as a new year gift. Then, walking up past the official end of the 'fairy stream' in hopes of finding the source, i met a group of siblings going the same way - one mom and her younger brothers and sisters. Funny experience, and by the time we parted, i'd traded my bracelet from tyn for a cucumber from one of the girls.

*took an 18 hour busride from mui ne to hoi ann - not so pleasant - but met up with a dutch guy i'm travelling with now.

sweetness
man, sounds sweet (and the pictures are gorgeous). just don't trade that cucumber for a sickly looking bird with a fever. you wouldn't wanna catch Avian Bird AIDS or anything.

about the photos...
dear matt,

i've been thinking about your photos lately and feeling quite uneasy. i knew something was different--but i had foolishly skimmed through the photos the first time around and failed to notice the big, lop-sided khaki bucket hat on top of your head! anyway, congratulations! the safari hat is very nice. i hope it was not aquired as a part of the cucumber trade, because you already made out like a bandit in that deal. ;)

sincerely,
mylinh

p.s.-- you should really write more often. you can't possibly be THAT busy! haha.

floppy hat
actually - i picked that hat up in the dominican republic, brought it to tanzania, but figured i'd only commit (what some of my friends told me were) crimes against fashion - when travelling on my own.
