This past weekend we avoided holiday traffic by going to Lake Tahoe for an overnight stay with friends. The mister stayed behind to do some work, and I took advantage of some quality time
with some of my favorite people. This would be the kids first time sledding, and though we missed Daddy quite a bit, we had a blast.

The drive up to Lake Tahoe was fairly easy as all the holiday traffic was on the other side of the road, heading to their homes. The sun was shining and we made a pit stop at Ikeda's off Mace Boulevard in Davis, California. The four kids behaved themselves, though the last 15 minutes, they had tired of being in their carseats, but who could blame them. A few patches of snow were scattered through the mountains at lower elevations.

Checking in Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa, the beach was barely covered in any snow. But the next morning, we woke to a completely different scene. It had begun snowing overnight and the ground was covered in almost an inch of snow.

We enjoyed our condo and proceeded to head out to do some sledding. Our goal was to leave by 1 p.m so as to avoid the snow storm that was due to come in the late afternoon. We found a sweet sledding spot that wasn't too crowded past Emerald Bay. After an hour or so of fun, we rushed back to the condo to clean up and check out.

By 1:30 p.m., we heard chains were required. Oh crap! We attempted to make it as far down the mountains as we could, hoping to beat the pending snow storm heading directly for us. But as you can see in our pictures, we caught up to it and let's just say it made for a memorable trip. Thoughts of getting stuck in a minivan with four unhappy kids under the age of 7, would prove to be a nightmare situation ;)

We love you Lake Tahoe, but we'll come back with all-wheel or four-wheel drive.
