Riding Virgin America to Vegas. I'm a bit under the weather and my cohort is busy playing Words With Friends on his iPhone. Beer in his hand, a glass of wine in mine, we turn to face each other-clink-we toast. A smirk appears on both our faces. Our first getaway since having had two kids in the past three years. This trip is long overdue and as our journey encounters some turbulence, I'm ill-prepared for having any semblance of an itinerary for this trip. But it's Vegas, like you need one. Normally, I do a bit of food destination research (c'mon, Vegas has become a culinary destination) and try to plan ahead and make reservations at particular restaurants. Well, not this time, a side-effect of having young children.

Not having had much to eat since 12 this morning, that glass of wine and all this turbulence is becoming an issue. Finally we land, and after a quick trip down the taxi line and listening to our cabbie describe how he drove a bunch of investment bankers and their escorts around, we arrive at the Encore. Opulent. Ornate. XS (name of one of their nightclubs). That pretty much sums up Encore. It's beautiful and the hand-blown glass chandeliers cost about $150k, so I've read. Checking-in took some time--an offer of champagne while we waited would've been nice. Our king suite on the 26th floor is Ah-ma-Zing! Floor to ceiling windows that has a view of the Wynn, golf course, The Strip, and overlooks the two pools. A master remote that can control all the lights in the room and the drapes is located on a nightstand. You turn the TV on and a greeting of Welcome, (insert your name)-appears. Feeling pretty VIP at this point. Our little living room has a sleek sofa with a chaise. Comfy bathrobes and a TV are found inside our large bathroom.  There's a separate shower and tub and I'm thinking we totally scored on this. Btw, did I mention that I got a great deal through a promotional letter through the mail and comes with two complimentary tickets to watch Le Reve. Which we're watching tonight at 9:30.

Without much time to spare, we head over to the Wynn to eat a quick, tasty, overpriced meal (for Chinese food) before the show. I know these prices are making us pay for the cost of the beautiful decor. We're in Vegas. Live large, right?

Le Reve is a great show. Spectacular acrobatic feats in water and plenty of bald-headed men. Yup, almost 90% of the guys in this show are all bald. What's up with that? Anyhow, time for more nightlife. See you tomorrow.
