Guthrie's Tavern is the kind of place that defines Chicago.  In every way and shape, Guthrie's embodies how I see this city.  Laid back. Intriguing. Warm. Friendly and fun.  The bar has good character as well as a good beer selection.

Guthrie's is nestled on the North side of the city, a few blocks west of Wrigley field.  The bar is close enough to a thriving nightlife area to be accessible...but far enough away that it gives Guthrie's a true neighborhood bar feeling.

The thing that separates Guthrie's from your average run of the mill bar is their colossal wall of games.  Okay...so its really not a wall but more of a large bookshelf packed to the brim with just about every board game you could imagine.  They also allow you to bring in your own games if you can't find anything to your liking from their selection.

The two elements seem to contradict each other.  Beer...a clearly adult beverage, and board games...a once larger chapter of childhood.  But I think they play well inside Guthrie's.  Stepping into Guthrie's has all the benefits of re-living all those things that made it great to be a little kid...and combines them with the benefits of being an adult, mainly beer.

I would strongly recommend this place to anyone.  After walking in from the afternoon heat, I spent a good remainder of the day inside Guthrie's doing exactly what the place is there for...Playing games, drinking beer, and enjoying the good company of friends.
