Saturday, August 9 - Seward, AK - Day 1 of 3
The drizzle could not dampen the spectacular landscape as we traveled the Seward Highway this morning from Anchorage to Seward, Alaska. We stopped at Beluga Point, not expecting to see whales, but wishing we had. There were so many "too beautiful for words" spots that I could have snapped photos continuously.
Seward is the type of town that Art and I love and we feel right at home here. It is a tiny seaside fishing village and I think the fishing boats in the harbor out number the homes. There is a salmon fishing derby taking place in town and the harbors, docks, and fish cleaning stations are bustling with fisherman.
We walked the docks and spoke to crews coming ashore with their catches. It seems that fisherman everywhere speak the same language. There are a number of gift shops in town that we walked to as well.
The only thing I saw that I didn't like was a tsunami evacuation sign. I love the water, but not THAT much!
