Peter has been very keen to go to Nantucket but the kids couldn't really be bothered with the hour long boat journey and more sightseeing so just the two of us went off early this morning to catch the 8am boat. I have to admit that I wasn't particularly bothered either but as soon as we pulled into the harbour I could understand what all the fuss was about, it is absolutely lovely!

We only had 3 and half hours until our return boat so we picked up one of the bus tours that takes you round the island, shows you the main sights and gives you some history of the island especially the whaling. Nancy our guide was very informative and has lived on Nantucket all her life. After that we had a wander round the small town and had a picnic lunch overlooking the harbour before needing to board our boat back to the mainland. We both absolutely loved Nantucket and our very short visit has only whet our appetite - it's definitely on the list as a place to return to one day!

We got back to the house about 3 pm to find the others all on their way back from the beach having spent most of the day there.

We had a quiet afternoon and then we all went out to watch the final of the Cape League baseball which was great fun. I say all but in fact Darcy needed to go to bed so Tara stayed behind to babysit - her first official babysitting experience when she's completely alone in the house! All went well thank goodness!
