Where I stayed
Day 3 - Reef Encounter
Another 06:00 "wake up scuba time"... but, only 3 more dives and will be fully cerifited open water divers!!!
We were up last night completeing the written test... Everyone (including the boys) passed the written test... to pass they had to have over 90%...
During the first dive of the day we were all tested on the various tactics we learned throughout our training. Yes, Julie was testing on removing her regulator and was able to do so with out much trouble!
Later that dive we cruised around the great barrier reef using uop the air in our tanks and saw a turtle... I looked over to point it out to Julie and she was already heading full steam to the turtle with her arm extended...
It was quite the opposite reaction when we saw a shark on the floor of the ocean in an earlier dive. They tell us that they do not attack unless provoked... with that in mind we continued to swim away. We heard on the news last night that a surfer at Bondi Beach was attacked by a shark!!!
(For Mac and Lorraine - Frankie is still alive and well... we were all able to touch and feel this amazing fish)
With the 3 dives for the day under our belts we hopped on the (slow boat to china) back to Cairns. We never realized how slow the boat was, as we were studying all the way to the Reef Encounter Boat. We did stop once to snorkel and Julie was able to swim down and play with another 2 turtles... There was a couple photos taken and we will try to get a copy of them off the daypix website. We then hired a taxi to the Cairns Beach Resort where we were able to put out feet up and relax for the rest of the day.

Beats Snowy Kincardine!
Matt, Julie and "The Boys"
Sounds like a great trip so far.
Love the underwater pictures and the surfing at Bondi Beach!
Congratulations on passing your scuba tests, keep your eyes open for sunken treasure.
FYI - the weather here/outside is frightful... lots of snow and high winds. The high school buses were cancelled today.
Take care and enjoy your trip.

We've loved seeing the photos
Julie, Matt, T&D, we have loved your blog, Mac and I have loved seeing the photos although by the time the pictures of the reef were coming through, Mac was saying 'no I can't look any more I want to go back'. We have enjoyed lots of fond memories. Congratulations on your diving license. Great to hear Frankie is still alive and well. We are freezing cold and digging out the driveway every few hours. Your mum hasn't seen the photos yet but will whenever we can get her and Mollie to stay home - maybe Christmas Day. Looking forward to hearing about your day at Steve Irwin's zoo. Miss you guys.
