Noah and Woody get up and pack for the beach. I beg for 5 minutes more sleep, and then another 5 minutes. I then get up and cook some porridge to eat on the beach. I put the steaming hot porridge in a bowl and put the lid firmly on. This words for about 3 seconds and then bowl of porridge explodes, blowing the lid of and spraying scalding hot porridge everywhere. This is not ideal.
So we get everything in the car and head to the beach and get me a substitute breakfast en route.
At the beach the market is on, so I grab some fruit whilst the fellas set up the tent
The fellas dig a massive hole and turn it into a car. Woody is blissfully happy and all enjoy his imaginary car journeys.
9am is the start time for Clean Up Australia Day and I can some people in the distance picking up rubbish in the bright yellow bags. Now, at this point we should have packed up and headed over to help, as we had intended. We do not do this. What we do continue to do is have a fabulous time on the sand and enjoy the glorious weather. We hit the water and it is gorgeous too.
By the time we leave the beach the Clean Up is over and we feel a bit on the guilty side. We head over the shops and on the way we see a band and some dancers. We watch for a while and Woody has a little dance. We do the grocery shopping and wonder how we managed to spend $160 and we did not buy one extravagant thing. We seriously need to eat less.
As we leave the checkout the same fella who invited me to sizzle last week, is there again selling his snags. Woody cannot believe his luck and heads back for a hot dog. The bloke writes Elwood's name in ketchup, so Woody is pretty impressed.
We head back to the car and head home as it is starting to rain. We manage to get the washing from the line just in time
Noah works and I razz around and cook and tidy up and listen to my audio book.
We wake Woody and he wakes up in a terrific mood. We give him a minute to wake up properly and then we head to Broadwater Park, at Woody’s request. Woody rides all around the park and has a good play at the bike track. Woody is having a ball, chatting and waving hello to everyone we pass. He is charming. When it starts to rain, we head back to the car.
Back at home Woody is bathed and fed and asks a lot of questions about why we did not Clean Up Australia today. I say we forgot as it sounds better than the alternative, 'we decided to sit on the beach instead'. Woody is not happy about this and is insisting we Clean Up Australia tomorrow. sigh. And then, he is asleep.
Noah and I eat and watch Homeland and scare ourselves witless.
And tonight, Noah works and I am not sure what the plan is for me, whatever it is it will surely involve caffeine.
Good night. x
