Woody wakes up at some point and starts making dinosaurs and giraffes out Lego. He comes to wake me when he cannot find a very important, very particular yellow piece of Lego that he only has one of.  As you can undoubtedly see, it is pretty urgent.  So I get up, up-end the Lego container, find the holy-grail of Lego pieces and I am a champion in the eyes of my son and it is not even 7am.  Winner.

When I walk out of Woody's bedroom into the living room I have a proper heart sink moment as I remember that last night I was in too much pain from my swimming session to tidy up.  So, the house is a tip.  The dishes are not done and there is stuff everywhere.  There is also a washing line full of clean washing.  It is pouring with rain so the clean washing is also very wet washing.  There is also a stack of toys outside getting rained on, as is my elastic belt.  I am well aware that I am running about 24 years late on the elastic belt trend but I put my iPod in it when I do not have any pockets.  Noah says this makes me look like a weightlifter.  The elastic belt is currently outside because it was being used as the handle for a homemade portable lion cage.

So, there is pretty much mess everywhere.  There are only 3 of use in this house, but we are all ferals.  But I can’t do anything about it until I am fed and watered

Elwood helps himself to a scone for breakfast, as this is what he does now, apparently.  I eat a weird dessert-flavoured low fat yoghurt because this is what I do now, apparently.    I then clean up the remains of yesterday.  Grump.

Woody and I get ready and we are off to Mighty Kickers for the first time in a few weeks.  We arrive on time and Woody is super happy to be there and to see Coach Hayden (although not happy enough to remember his name, and enthusiastically calls him Coach Jayden repeatedly).  Woody and I kick the ball around to warm up and then the whistles goes and it’s time to start and Woody sits down and says he has had enough.  I take him over to join in and I untangle him from my legs.  He starts to join in and I inch backwards.  It just takes a few minutes and he is as right as rein.  I sit and watch and Woody joins in.  He is brilliantly behaved, does as he is asked and clearly tries hard in all the exercises.  Just 1 or 2 pushing incidents and one misunderstanding where Woody did not realise he was meant to be aiming for the cones, and not the kid in front of the cones.  All in all, he did okay.

Back at home Elwood is keen to show Noah everything he did so the two of them play a little indoor football.  I provide snacks.  It is still raining but we all have a bit of cabin fever and need to get out of the house.  There is nothing on at the cinema, we cannot face the indoor play area, so we decide to go for a swim in the rain.  By the time we faff around getting ready the rain stops and the sun comes out.  Terrific.

Elwood rides his bike and then has a play in the rockpools.  Elwood has brought 3 wild animals with him, and happily shares them with other children at the pools and we play happily for ages.  Maybe slightly too long as it appears I have caught the sun on my nose and my forehead.  Idiot.  Woody has a great time and Noah and I sit and be parent bores and talk about how proud we are of Woody.

We then head off to the beach shelters and we have a bit of a picnic lunch.  I say 'a bit of’ because only Woody has food so it is not the best picnic either Noah or I have been to.  We leave when it seriously looks like the seagulls are going to attack.

Woody gets back on his bike and he rides a big circuit around the park and we look at all the statues again.  We call by the climbing frame and Woody has a go on that before we head back home.

Back at home Noah and I eat as much as we can, as quickly as we can as we are starving hungry.  Woody and I practice a little writing and then sort out the toys in his bedroom.  I have been meaning to do this for ages and today Woody is almost helpful-ish.

Woody and I make some pizza.  We make Woody’s signature topping, peas and corn.  Woody has a bath and then eats sausage and pizza.  He is charming all through dinner and is chatting enthusiastically about good manners.  It is very sweet.  Over the course of the afternoon he has also re-invented himself as a knight.

Woody is shattered.  I read him some stories and he is asleep.

Noah and I eat dinner and watch 2 episodes of New Girl.  We snort and laugh and cringe and Noah has to watch some of it with a cushion over his head because it is so cringeworthy.  Brilliant.

I blog and watch Due Date and Noah gets on with work.  We are planning an early beach trip tomorrow so I should finish tidying up and pack the beach bags.  But frankly, I think I am just going to stretch out on the sofa and take my burnt nose and forehead to bed.

Goodnight. x
