Where I stayed
home sweet home
Oh man, the days start early around here. We had a late one last night and Woody appeared in our room at 3.30am saying ‘Hey Guys’, he goes back to sleep until 5.30am but there is no putting him off any longer - the suns up and Woody wants to play trains. Grrrrrrrrrr.
Despite the early hour, the day gets off to a cracking start. Noah makes some Christmas presents and Woody chats happily and plays. We call in at the post office on the way to swimming to pick up a registered letter. This could be any number of boring, official letters so I am not at all excited about this. And then I open it and it is a gift voucher to my favourite department store. Hooray! There is nothing else inside so I do not know who has sent me this super great gift. I have just 2 clues: it is someone who knows my address and someone who uses my maiden name. This confuses me more – so to the anonymous gift giver –thank you – you made my day!
The day gets even better at swimming. Maternal bias aside – Woody was a legend. He is learning to dive from a sitting position, and he is learning arms and breathing. Noah and I feel so proud we just beam and just barely resist the urge to high five / air punch whenever Woody does anything in the water. Unfortunately, we are those sorts of parents.
The pool is just buzzing with activity; there is synchronised swimming (to what appears to be bollywood tunes?), diving, scuba training, lessons, squads, and the craziest circuit training I have ever seen. It feels so vibrant it is hard not to just want to get involved. I even read the sign about making 2012 the year to try a triathlon. But then I think just a walk along the beach is more my thing really, I am not sure how I would hold my latte during a triathlon!
Next stop – preschool. And it is fair to say we love Woody’s preschool more and more times every time we are there. Last bit of paperwork sorted and he is all set to start on January 11.
Back home, Woody and I play and Noah works on Christmas presents. We make Christmas cards and we narrowly escape a superglue incident.
Inspired by successful card making, we move on to Christmas biscuit making. Well, I was sorted of guilted into making biscuits. Yesterday, Elwood took a bite from one of my favourite Christmas tree decorations – it is not an edible decoration. (Jayden – it was the one you made when you were 2 or 3). I love that decoration and I was furious with Elwood until his apology. He said, ‘I am sorry for breaking something that was special, but I thought it was like the biscuits we hung on the tree in Billericay.’ Every year in the UK we have decorated our tree with biscuits, but this year due to heat, flies, and cockroaches we decided not to. Apparently, Elwood was not aware of this so started eating decorations which looked vaguely biscuit-like. So, Woody asked if we could please make some decorations we could eat. So we did. Jayden – you will be pleased to know that Uncle Noah was able to mend your decoration – and we have now hung it out of Elwood’s reach!
We decorated our Christmas biscuits after dinner, and Woody manhandled every one of those biscuits and every sweetie on top. He then sat under the table and ate the broken biscuits and the sweeties he took from the table when he thought we weren’t looking.
The evening, hmmm. Emailed folk, chatted to Leonie, and watched Dinner for Schmucks and Anchorman. I am contemplating wrapping Christmas presents and running my eyes over the to-do list.
It is getting late and I am feeling wearing so it’s time for some sugar.
Good night good people.
