We Left Hanoi to Board an 11hr Sleeper Bus. Only to Find that there was no Toilet on the Bus. Not what we needed after deciding to have a few beers to try and send us to sleep for the journey. Unfortunately the sleeper bus is not designed for the larger man, if you are over 5 ft 6in not much chance of getting any form of sleep.  Thankfully the bus did manage toilet stop, at what can only be described as the dungeon!!!  The place was disgusting worse than anything we had seen in India, you had to crouch to get into it and it was inhabited by a tribe of cockroaches.
We finally arrived in a misty drizzley Sapa at about 7am.  By 9am the mist had lifted and we started our first trek down to a tribal village.  On the way we passed through a local market which to our horror was selling dog, i'm not sure if this was on display to get the tourist attention or if the locals did actually eat dog?  Th village we got to grew numerous plants but primarily rice and even some marijuana, which the guide claimed they didn't smoke.  There were water buffalo and pigs to be found at every corner and the views were amazing.  Thankfully the temperature and humidity at Sapa was not as severe as Hanoi since it was much higher, a relief  with all the walking.  We arrived back at our hotel about 12pm for lunch, with nothing planned for the afternoon.
Since we were only in Sapa for a short time we decided to hire a motorbike and hit the road to see what we could discover, finding amazing twisty roads which lead further into the mountains and a spectacular waterfall, we were shattered come tea time and had an early night.
The next day was a longer trek further down the valley into another tribal village, a more demanding and exhilarating trek it got the heart pumping, steep drops and breath taking views through other villages it was lunch time before we knew it and our time in Sapa was over.  We wished we had allowed more time to explore this brilliant part of the country.
